Windows 11updates can sometimes take as much as 15GB of storage space on your equipment.

The update tool downloads the updates and stores the files in a specific location for installation.

If you choose to set up the updates, Windows 11 will still keep the old files for rollback.

Heres how to do it.

Press the Windows Key + R button on your keyboard.

On the RUN dialog box, typeservices.mscand press Enter.

Stop

Find Windows Update Service and double press it.

On the Windows Update Properties, clickStop.

Press the Windows Key + R button again toopen the RUN dialogbox.

On the SoftwareDistribution folder, pressCTRL + Abutton to select all files.

Once selected, right click and selectDelete.

After deleting the files,empty the recycle bin.

Press Windows Key + R to fire up the RUN dialog box.

Find the Windows Update service and double choose it.

Start

On the Service Status, click Start.

Heres how to use it.

  1. pop in Disk Cleanup in the Windows 11 Search and open it.

Uncheck all selected options first and then check the Windows Update Cleanup

Once done, click onOK.

On the Confirmation prompt, selectDelete Files.

Heres what it’s crucial that you do.

  1. punch in CMD in the Windows 11 Search.

Right-punch CMD and selectRun as administrator.

When the Command Prompt opens, execute these two commands to stop the Windows Update Service.

After executing the two commands, run this command.

Once done, execute this command to delete the Windows Update Cache.

After deleting the Windows Update cache, you gotta start the Windows Update Services again.

To do so, execute these two commands one by one.

net stop wuauserv

OpenNotepadon your Windows 11 PC.

Copy the script shared below andpaste it into Notepad.

SelectFile > Savefrom the Menu bar.

cd %windir%\SoftwareDistribution

On the Save as throw in drop-down, selectAll Filesand clickSave.

The batch file will be created on your desktop.

When you want to run it, right-tap the Batch File and select Run as administrator.
